In October 2025, Eline van Gansewinkel began her PhD project at the Synapse Research Institute, in close collaboration with the Maastricht University Medical Center (MUMC+). Her research focuses on two areas within the field of hemostasis and thrombosis: thrombosis in patients with pancreatic cancer (SENAPANC study) and the complex hemostatic alterations in patients with liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a research line she continues from her colleague Ruth Willems. In addition to her PhD research, Eline continues to work in healthcare, maintaining a connection with clinical practice. This dual role enables her to bridge the gap between research and patient care.
Eline obtained her master’s degree in medicine from Maastricht University in August 2024. Following her graduation, she worked as a physician in the Department of Internal Medicine at MUMC+, where she developed a broad understanding of internal medicine and patient management. During this period, she realized she missed engaging in scientific research, which she had actively been involved in throughout her medical studies. Therefor she reached out to the Synapse Research Institute to pursue a PhD position that would allow her to combine her clinical expertise with scientific research.
