Dana Huskens

Research Director

In 2013, Dana Huskens joined the Synapse Research Institute, initially her focus was to optimize and clinically validate a method to measure thrombin in whole blood. As a Senior Research Project Leader, she was instrumental in the development of new tests related to platelet function/vitality, von Willebrand factor and plasmin generation. Now, as Research Director, her aim is to advance scientific knowledge and drive innovation in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis. She collaborates with leading research groups and plays a significant role in the education and training of bachelor ‘s and master’s students, as well as PhD candidates.

Dana completed her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the Limburg Transnational University (tUL) and went on to earn her master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences (cum laude) from the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven). In 2010, she obtained her PhD with a research focus on HIV inhibitors targeting the early stages of infection. She continued with a three-year postdoctoral fellowship at the KU Leuven, specializing in the mechanisms of action and development of resistance of HIV inhibitors.
