Siyu Sun

Junior PostDoc

Siyu Sun has a joint PhD position at the Synapse Research Institute and the Department of Biochemistry at Maastricht University. She investigates the contributing roles of platelets, red blood cells, fibrinogen and endothelial cells in the context of the complex and intricate coagulation processes. Furthermore, she is involved in the development of a new high-throughput method to asses thrombin generation to redefine the blood cell contributions to the clotting process as she compares the whole blood assay to (platelet rich) plasma assay. Hereto, she collaborated with various (inter)national leading laboratories in the field of thrombosis and hemostasis.

In 2012 Siyu attended Shandong University located in Jinan City of the Shandong province (China) to study Pharmacy. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in 2016, she was recommended for the Master program of Pharmaceutical Science at the same university. During this period, she worked on nanotechnology for drug delivery systems. Directly after obtaining the master degree in 2019, she was awarded a scholarship from the China Scholarship Council to join a PhD training program at Maastricht University, which she could start October 2020. In the intermediate year Siyu investigated mechanisms of neuromodulation by magnetic nanoparticle technology at the Department of Neurosurgery at Shandong University.
